We have been operating Expat websites for a few years now. In the main they were focused on Brittany in France, but we found that they were a bit limited. Hence the creation of Expatsters.com. It’s aim is to connect expats together from across the whole world, and is totally different to any other expat website you may have come across.
You can make connections by using the friend button so you can track the activity of others, or by using a filter accept only those users you care about the most. You decide which friend requests you accept. You can also request to be friends with somebody you find interesting or maybe informative. The friends feature offers you plenty of opportunity.
Private messaging allows you to communicate with each other directly, and in private. You are not just limited to one on one discussions, you can also send messages to multiple recipients. So if you have an announcement you want to make, you only have to send the message once, as it will find its way to those you select. You also get notified every time you have a new message.
Start a blog built on the best blogging software in the world. You are able to start your own full powered WordPress blog, and build it around the things that interest you the most, or maybe use it to advertise your business. The look and feel of the blog is easily changed, by changing the templates. You do this via your blogs back room office. You can also easily track new posts and comments across your site.
One of our more exciting innovations are the full powered discussion forums which are built directly into the groups. These allow for more conventional in-depth conversations, than any other current method adopted by websites across the net. The latest topics and discussions are always at the top, where you would expect them to be. No more trawling through dead topics.
The powerful groups feature allows you to create your own discussion group and can be made public, private or hidden. If you decide on private, people cannot take part unless you grant their request to join. If you’ve opted for hidden nobody will even know your group exists. The advantage of this is that you get to invite only those you enjoy discussions with.
To better enable you to chat with your fellow members is a powerful chat feature. At any time you can click on Chat and then select either Shoutbox or Chatroom. If you select the shoutbox, it will pop up on the lower right side, but if you find it obtrusive you can simply pick it up and move it somewhere you find more convenient. It will stay there even as you click through the site.
Expatsters Albums lets you upload photos and build your own picture collection. If you are a keen photographer, there is no easier way of displaying your works of art. Talking of art, if you are a budding artist, you can display your creations for your friends and family to enjoy. Uploading your pictures is as easy as clicking a few tabs, and is done in a jiffy.
The activity stream keeps you fully up to date with what has been going on in your absence. All entries made in public groups, forums, and albums show in this feature. If new people have joined, you’ll know by visiting the activity stream.
