Im feeling naughty today. I think I’ll phone Houston and say ”I have a problem”
I wonder what they’d do if I did? -

I received a free copy of the Connexion I always used to read a copy on the ferry. I see that the EU are reviewing the ban on state healthcare in France for people from other EU countries. I always wondered if this may happen. This may clash with recent EU rules on compatibility between states social security systems.
about bloody time too
They do seem to have one law for themselves and another law for others
I wonder how that will turn out?
I have never understood how they got away with that one in the 1st place. They are cheeky buggers at times.
Sorry to say it, but….. typical french! I sure hope they dont manage to push it through, there are enough expats struggling over here as it is without the added worry of healthcare.
lisa It did get through but is now being reviewed I hope it does get changed, it is not like people wanted FREE healthcare, they wanted to contribute to the system, and then buy a top up.
Thats confusing then because we get our health care and have a top up insurance. We get reimbursed fully. Unless us having kids makes a difference?
Steve you were already in the system…it is not a problem for you.
ahhhh now i remember! doh….Yes it concerns people wanting to get into the system and they werent able to back track their plans to include those already ’in’ – although they would have liked to!

Today, we have visitors coming over for a couple of weeks. Although its nice to see old friends and family, I find visits exhausting and disrupting.
Somehow the pressure is always on to entertain them.
Oh well. Into the breechCould be worse. Could be in-laws.
Mine are sick in the head, and I dread them coming over. Some I look forward to seeing but others I’d rather stayed away. And you’re right, if you’re working and have a family, entertaining others for a week or so is difficult. Some people find it difficult to understand that you’re not on your hols like them.
I normally welcome those I like and try my damndest to deter all others. Dont see why I should put up with someone moving in with me for a free holiday, when I dont even get on with them.
Take a deep breathe Mell and push through it as best you can. I know exactly where you’re coming from.
Always hard work to have visitors – although enjoyable it kinda upsets the normal routine and then its hell trying to get things back on track afterwards! Hope you have a good time and try and get them to pitch in so you arent waiting on everyone hand and foot!

It looks like some UK supermarkets are shutting up shop in Calais. It seems the ”Booze Cruisers” have dropped off possibly due to the recession and the exchange rate. Bit of a suprise really dont you think?

Anyone noticed how the tv ads in france portray us blokes as some bumbling idiots who haven’t a clue how to do anything at home?
A guy falling through a window while cleaning it and another knocking the mop bucket over while mopping seems to be the nrom for the marketing geniuses over here.
Bloody cheek I say and so does a M Mace whos job is lookinmg into this kind of tripe. -

I use it to browse as well. Never bought anything on there yet, but lots of people do. As Lisa says, just take the usual precautions that you would take when buying anything online
Same here.
If it’s a high valued item you’re buying or selling, insist on a recognised escrow service for payment, such as escrow.com. Never go with one that is not known.
For lesser amounts use paypal as they have a good refund policy for buyers. Its as Lisa and Sky have said. As long as your armed with the knowledge that there are scammers out there, you’ll naturally show care and attention.

Small rant ~ I have reached the stage where I am totally fed up with white van drivers. This year my vehicle was written off by one, and this afternoon the driver behind me was so close I couldn’t see his plates. I don’t consider 97kph/60mph as very slow driving on a single carriageway, since that is slightly over the limit! yet still they drive right up my !!!!!
Couldn’t agree more expatblu. I too had to take avoiding action just today, as I was overtaken by some idiot even though there was oncoming traffic. If I hadn’t of slowed down, there is no way he could have got between me and the car I was following.
You can include vans of all colours, and most cars as well. These people have death wishes
A few years back I would have read a comment like this and thought another expat moaning, but the rear bumper on my car seems to be attracting van drivers like flies on a windscreen!
The driving of those in France is one of the few things that most expats and a hell of a lot of French agree on I think lol
In my opinion they need more unmarked traffic cop cars over here :S Can’t believe I am actually saying that, but its true!!
